Technical collection by Relay crews and specialist vehicles | Relay

Technical Collection

Technical equipment collections are undertaken by Relay’s specialist Mercedes vehicles complete with full livery, air-ride suspension, load locking system and tail-lift. On-board equipment includes specialist straps, foam, blankets and corner pieces to safely protect fragile electronic equipment, ensuring the safe transportation of goods from A to B. Relay vehicles are manned by a minimum of two crew members as standard, so that secure and efficient technical equipment handling procedures are assured for every consignment. Options for specialist equipment storage of goods in transit are also available at our depots in Iver, Buckinghamshire, Northampton, Warrington and Coatbridge Lanarkshire.

Consignments are carefully loaded and secured onto Relay delivery vehicles and equipment is checked against the customer delivery instructions to ensure all items are loaded.

Technical Equipment Collection & Handling

Items up to 60Kg in weight require a 2-man lift, with anti-static bubblewrap and cage to roll the equipment safely and undamaged onto the truck. On arrival at a consignment's destination, technical equipment handling of heavier items of say 0.5 to 1 tonnes may require stair walking and tilting equipment, with spreader plates sometimes necessary to extend weight over floor surface areas.

Relay also operates a nightly trunking service between our nationwide operating centres, which offer leading edge facilities for specialist equipment storage. Trunk vehicles are equipped to the same specification as the daily delivery vehicles. This service is reliable and fast e.g. Relay’s rapid trunking system can enable us to collect a consignment from London Heathrow airport at 16:30 on day 1 for delivery to Glasgow at 09:00 day 2.
