1975
  • Relay founded by David & Ailsa Reid (parents of current MD Hugh Reid) at the family home in Denham Village, Buckinghamshire. The “fleet” consisted of a single VW 1 tonne van!
  • Breakthrough! Relay got its first specialist job, which was transporting a model oil rig to Aberdeen.

1977
  • The fleet grew to 4 vans parked at the family home causing some neighbourly disputes!
  • Relay’s services had attracted customers such as Faberge, the BBC, Wang, Exxon, and several major oil companies.

1978
  • Relay moved to a warehouse at Rank Film Laboratories in Denham Green and the fleet quickly grew to two Mercedes 809 7.5 tonners and five vans. The company now employed 12 staff.

1979
  • We moved again to Rank Xerox in Uxbridge as Rank Film estate was being developed.

1980
  • There was no stopping us! Relay moved to an 8000sq.ft warehouse in Horton to take over a major storage contract.

1982
  • Joe Schulein (Relay Chairman) joined Relay as Transport Supervisor.

1984
  • Our happy connection with Iver, Buckinghamshire, began when we moved to the Bison Estate in Iver Village.

1992
  • As we expanded we moved our Iver depot to the Ridgeway Trading Estate (12,000 sq. ft.). We now had a fleet of 12 trucks and employed 25 staff.

1993
  • Joe Schulein became Managing Director following the passing of David Reid. Hugh Reid, our current Managing Director, joined Relay as Stock Controller on a temporary basis!

1994
  • Hugh Reid moved into a Business Development role.

1995
  • Relay opened a second depot in Warrington to service the North of England and Scotland.
  • Relay began working with Konica Minolta, now our largest customer.

1999
  • Relay opened a third depot in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, to service Scotland.
  • Daniel Rangecroft (Sales Director) joined Relay Iver as a Trainee Manager and Tom McMahon (Head of Operations) joined Relay Coatbridge as a Traffic Manager.

2000
  • Relay Warrington relocated to brand new 20,000 warehouse in Eagle Park.

2007
  • Hugh Reid became Managing Director and Joe Schulein became Chairman.

2014
  • Relay completed its one millionth delivery.
  • Daniel Rangecroft joined the Board as Sales Director.

2015
  • Relay celebrates 40th birthday and is to open its 4th depot in Northampton.

Now we look forward to an exciting future. Another 40 years? Who knows!
