In a post on 5th May, Logistics UK gave a conditional welcome to the UK/US trade deal, but said that more detailed information would be required for a fuller assessment. At time of writing, the true extent of its benefits are still to be revealed.

The post also added that: “With decarbonisation, Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. Logistics UK supports, shapes and stands up for safe and efficient logistics, and is the only business group which represents the whole industry, with members from the road, rail, water and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.”
Logistics UK has rightly been awarded as a trade association for its highly effective support and services for its membership. So Relay Technical Transport, both nationally and globally, contributes proactively as members to Logistics UK because we are conscious of the benefits it can provide to both our company and our customers. As this post indicates, transport and logistics providers have a pivotal role in the success of UK business and indeed to the progress of international world trade. The two objectives are closely interlinked.
Challenges this year
We are now at the half year stage of 2025, and there is still a high degree of instability in global trade, much of it relating to geopolitical trends and events frequently aggravated by the actions and personalities of major political actors on the world stage.
BDO’s “Predictions for the Transport and Logistics Industry” observes that: “The logistics and transport sector in 2025 is primed for a dynamic evolution. To remain competitive, companies must embrace cutting-edge technologies, adopt sustainable practices and build resilience into their operations.
“Customer expectations, from transparency to speed and sustainability, will continue to shape industry priorities.
“By leveraging technology, businesses can enhance visibility and deliver exceptional experiences to their customers.
“As the logistics landscape becomes more complex, those who anticipate and adapt to these changes will unlock new growth opportunities and thrive in this transformative era and as always it is important for any business operating in the space to stay ahead of the curve.”
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary since the foundation of our company in 1975, Relay can reflect on the way that new technology for track and trace and consignment management has been integral to our services to customers both nationally and globally.
But just as important is the person-to-person communication that we and other leading companies in our sector strive to achieve with customers and end users, not least, in our case, with the driving crews and engineers responsible for the high value electronic equipment essential to their operations.
In a world highly focused on online transactions and the advance of AI, the importance of human interaction should not be ignored.
