It is just over a year since we opened our depot in Northampton and it’s continually proving itself to be an invaluable part of our nationwide network. Relay’s expanding operations and the wish to maintain and build on our quality of services to customers have made its presence essential to logistical requirements.

The all-Mercedes vehicle fleet stationed there has increased from three to eight vehicles, ranging from articulated, 18-tonne and 12-tonne trucks to the urban-friendly Sprinter van. The depot also now employs 20 highly qualified staff from the local area, up from 14 at launch.

Northampton has been very busy indeed, with nearly 10,000 jobs undertaken since April 2016. These have included the major project for Envair Laboratory Equipment described in this newsletter. Another major assignment was the delivery and installation of 90 MFDs for Maclaren Formula 1 in Woking, Surrey early on a Saturday morning. Like a number of large-scale projects, these were handled in collaboration with other Relay depots.

Located at Queens Park Industrial Estate, the Relay Northampton depot offers excellent resources for customers. These include:

  • 13,500 square foot technical storage facility
  • Double loading bay doors
  • 24-hour manned security on estate
  • External CCTV
  • Internal CCTV, security alarms and fire systems

Northampton’s Operations Manager Mark Anderson commented: “We are playing an increasing role in Relay’s operations and with our strategic location between Iver and Warrington we can provide vital support.

“Relay’s Operator’s Licence gives the opportunity to grow our Northampton depot fleet to 14 LGV vehicles and two trailers, which provides us with plenty of scope to progressively expand our business.”
